What Are Anxiety, Stress, and Depression?

Depression, stress, and anxiety are very common behavioral health concerns that are often associated with overeating, poor food choices, and a sedentary lifestyle. Depression, stress, and anxiety are also often overlooked when treating the diseases of overweight and obesity. It’s normal to have stress in our lives, but when it starts to impact everyday life and eating habits, it is best to ask for help. Unfortunately, treatment for mental health conditions often involves medications that cause weight gain. We can navigate and avoid unwanted side effects of psychiatric medication, including weight gain, by assessing your medication options and mental health needs. We can offer you a consultation on psychiatric medications that are weight neutral. At Ignite Weight Loss & Mental Health, we offer compassionate behavioral counseling via telehealth to talk to you about your symptoms of depression and anxiety. We understand that effective weight loss treatment takes into account mental and physical health and can be a sensitive topic for some patients. You deserve to feel great both physically and mentally, and we are here to help. Ignite Weight Loss & Mental Health can help you identify and treat the source of your depression, stress, and anxiety that may be keeping you at an unhealthy weight. We offer digital sessions for people throughout the states of Arizona, Texas and New Mexico and will do our best to create a customized wellness plan that treats all aspects of your well-being.

How Do Anxiety, Stress, and Depression Affect Your Weight?

When you suffer from anxiety, stress, or depression, you are at a higher risk of gaining weight. Depression and anxiety are both associated with overeating, poor food choices, and a more sedentary lifestyle that can lead to weight gain over time. Unhealthy relationships with food can also cause people to be stressed and depressed. When people struggle with excess weight, they may binge eat, have intense cravings, or eat compulsively. The cycle of having strong emotions related to food and losing the daily battle with cravings and binge eating is hard to break. At Ignite Weight Loss & Mental Health, we are equipped to help you break that cycle for good! During your consultation, we will discuss any behavioral health challenges you may have and use that information to tailor your personalized weight loss program. We use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Eating (MB-EAT), Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to provide evidence-based weight loss counseling.

I am not a review person. I don’t leave reviews because I’ve always felt that a person needs to make their own judgement without my opinion. I’m making an exception to that because I truly am grateful and people that feel “stuck” need to know that you are NOT just “stuck”. I had gained 30 pounds in the past year and I’ve tried everything from keto to eating small meals every 3 hours. I’ve had labs, well checks, and dr appointments. Every time I’ve said “I just don’t feel good” or tried to explain that despite diet, rigorously and endlessly exercising, I can’t lose the extra weight and I just don’t feel normal, the answer I kept getting was “you’re 45, you’re getting older and your body is just slowing down”. FINALLY, I made an appointment with Stephanie and she DIDN’T tell me”you’re just getting older”. We had a zoom appointment, we talked about lifestyle, and she gave me an answer for why I wasn’t feeling normal. She prescribed me a medication to help start the process and she gave me a detailed plan to start my journey. If you’re questioning whether you should make that appointment……..just do it! You’re NOT “stuck” and you’re NOT “just getting older”. It is definitely worth it!

I saw a post on FB in a nurses of AZ group, I was at a point in my life I was ready to do something. I called and got to talk with Katie upon calling! I’ve been working with her since July and I don’t regret one minute of it. Katie has been encouraging, supportive, and has finally given me the tools I need to be successful in my weight loss journey! My mindset has changed, my motivation has increased, my body is changing and Katie has been a helpful hand behind it all!! I have recommended her to all of my friends and will continue to do so!

Katie has been a God-send to our family. Our 14 yr old daughter has high functioning autism and was reaching all-time lows. We had seen several other practitioners including a pediatric neurologist and no one had been able to connect with our daughter and gain her trust. She didn’t want to go to anymore doctors claiming that no one had helped her and she just couldn’t do it anymore. These are the amazing things about Katie… 1. She is on zoom…this was such a better experience for both my daughter and I. It was amazing to not have to drive, sit in another office, and be seen by someone who never really cared to know us. Zoom was so convenient and we felt more relaxed in our home. 2. Katie is cash pay and the great part about this is that the child didn’t have to be present like in the Dr. Office. This allowed me to talk openly with her about what was going on without my daughter having to be embarrassed or sit through hearing everything again. Being able to have separate appointments allows my daughter and I to both be heard. 3. Katie has been amazingly available. When I have needed prescription refills or needed to touch base she has been extremely responsive and willing to help in timely manner. No more emailing the dr’s nurse🙌🏻🙌🏻. 4. I finally feel like I have someone in my corner who is helping me figure out how to help my daughter. She genuinely cares and I can’t put into words the amount of stress that has taken off of my shoulders. She has thought outside of the box in regards to her medication and we are finally feeling hopefully for the first time in a long time. Can’t recommend her enough!! 10/10

I began this journey with Katie about 2 months ago and I have to say she is simply the best. I’m getting results, feeling better, and learning new things every time we meet. I have and would recommend her.

A boutique medical practice that helped me so much. Excellent care and expertise. Especially recommend to women going through menopause and deal with weight gain and hormonal mood swings and anxiety. Lubbock is so lucky to have this practice.
